Directions: There is no signage on the road, so please read these directions to find the location. You can input the above address. If you are driving Northbound on Hecksher, you will pass Houston Ave on the left.  Then pass two gravel parking areas on the right. Take the next immediate right. When you turn in, you will see a sign that says "The Bluffs Scenic Shoreline picnic area." If you get to the bridge with a pavilion, you have gone too far. Please park in the loop and meet at the picnic area to check in and get seated.

There is an honor pay station at the entrance of the park, it costs $5 per vehicle to enter unless you have a park pass.

What to Expect

We will do 3 activities that will teach kids about the rock cycle, types of rocks, and erosion. These will take about an hour. We will then take an 8 minute walk down to the shore area to take a look at the effects of erosion first hand. After this, you are free to stay and explore, or head back at your leisure.

I would definitely recommend bringing a lunch and hanging out at the park after the class is over. If you have never been here before, this is a unique ecosystem with lots to explore on both the land and sea. Swimming is not allowed due to the submerged trees(park rules), but wading is fine, so bring some water shoes! .

Whos is this for?

This program is designed fro students ages 6-14, but children ages 4&5 are welcome to participate with parent assistance. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

What to Bring

Bugspray, Water bottle, Water shoes and shorts or clothes that can get wet (swimsuits are ok, but we will only be walking on the shore, not swimming) *There is an 8 minute hike down to the shore, please bring appropriate footwear.
