Job Title: Part-Time Environmental Educator

​

Position: Outdoor Elementary Educator


Location: Greater Jacksonville Area (primarily Mandarin/Fruit Cove)


Schedule: Flexible scheduling available Monday to Saturday from 8am to 2pm. Current need: Monday to Wednesday from 9am to 1pm.


Compensation: $18-$22/hour based on experience. Travel required and compensated.

Job Overview:
Jax Dragonfly Field Labs is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Outdoor Elementary Educator to join our team. This role involves leading outdoor educational programs for elementary-aged students, facilitating hands-on nature-based learning experiences, and fostering a strong connection between children and the natural world.

​

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and facilitate nature-based educational programs for elementary students.

  • Teach environmental, agricultural, and cultural lessons both indoors and outdoors.

  • Prepare and clean up program materials and equipment.

  • Attend training workshops and professional development sessions.

  • Promote the mission, goals, activities, and events of Jax Dragonfly Field Labs.

  • Collaborate with school teachers, administrators, volunteers, and parents to support outdoor learning initiatives.

  • Document learning processes through written documentation, photos, and social media content.

 

Requirements:

  • Educational Background: Preferred MA, BA, teaching certificate, or AA in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Environmental Science, or related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of two years of experience leading environmental education programs or two years experience working with young children, including those with diverse abilities or special needs.

 

Skills:

  • Strong connection with nature and passion for nature-based education.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively and productively as part of a team.

  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Physically fit and able to crouch, dig, climb, hike, and carry up to 50 lbs.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications.

 

Certifications: Certified CPR and First Aid (Wilderness First Responder preferred).

Job Title: Seasonal Camp Counselor

​

Get ready to lead a wild summer adventure as a camp counselor! Jax Dragonfly Academy is seeking camp counselors and environmental educators to lead campers through a variety of amazing outdoor activities. You will be actively participating in all camp activities while providing a safe and fun environment to small groups of campers. We are looking for counselors that are responsible and reliable and have the desire to make a difference in the life of a child.

FAQ
Where is camp located? Each week is in a different location within Jacksonville and St. Johns. Please email for specifics.
How many campers per week? Between 12 - 20 campers per week, with a max camper: counselor ratio of 8:1
Can I bring in my own ideas and creativity? Yes! If you have special skills, we would love for you to share them.
Does this role require lesson planning or pre-prep? We will have a staff training day prior to the start of camp, and staff are asked to read through the schedule each day before arrival. If you would like to plan unique activities, there is flexibility to do so, however it is not required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Desire and ability to work with children and adults in camp setting

  • Ability to accept and adapt to guidance and supervision

  • Ability to teach various activities

  • At least 18 years of age or 16+ with previous childcare experience

  • Must be able to work the entire week that is applied for

  • First Aid/CPR Certification must be completed before the first day of camp; if you do not already have a certification Jax Dragonfly may be able to cover a portion of the cost
     

Program responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead assigned morning and afternoon activities

  • Providing hands-on, experiential education and life-skill building opportunities to participants

  • Providing a safe, engaging, and enjoyable experience for campers

  • Attend and actively participate in all staff trainings and meetings

  • Work cohesively with fellow team members

  • Complete all assigned programmatic duties in a timely manner

  • Actively supervise, encourage, and guide campers through activities

  • Promote positive behavior and teamwork in group settings

  • Other duties as assigned

  • General responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Set a positive example for all participants, including cleanliness, punctuality, language, sportsmanship, and table manners

  • Follow all camp rules and regulations, including those of appropriate attire, no smoking, vaping, or use of alcohol or illegal drugs

  • Encourage and practice respect of personal property, camp equipment, and facilities
